Why is blood comin from the penis of my male dog?

I am really worried about him as he is my best friend, the opening is like a circle at the top then a small slit going down from that. He sat down on the carpet and then got up i noticed blood i checked him and he was bleeding underneath, it was quite bloody and messy yet i could not find a cut. He has had no other medical problems and i am really worried. He is only a puppy and is just 1year 1 1/2 months old. I am going to check his urine tommorow, what would it mean if its coming from there, and if it isn’t how should i treat it. His yearly vacinations are coming soon, I’m going to ask the vet about it. Please tell me whats wrong with him. If it helps he is a boston terrier who is not neuterd.

My sister had a dog with similar symptoms. Question–did he get out of the house and run away, and come back a few hours later? With my sister’s dog (not joking here, even though it is kinda funny), the dog got out and had so much sex he injured his penis. She was really worried and took him to the vet. I don’t remember how it was treated, so you might need to call the vet to find out.

If it doesn’t stop within an hour or so of you noticing it, I’d bring him to the vet sooner. Really, unless he somehow cut himself, there shouldn’t be blood coming from his penis EVER. If it keeps up, I’d bring him in.

He needs to go to the vet, right now. This is a serious medical emergency. It sounds like a severe kidney or prostate gland infection. This can be fatal (ie kill him) if left untreated.
Pick up the phone call your vet, tell them you are bringing your dog in as an emergency. Hang up. Put dog in car and go, go , go. Four way flashers and a bit over the speed limit would be a good idea.
Small dogs can’t afford to lose much blood or they go into shock.

Don’t worry…This is treatable….This happened to my male Bichon…..He has a bladder infection….This scared me too when it happened and I took him the next day to my vet…They gave him medication and it cleared it up in about one day!

    Good luck!

It is very common for unneutered male dogs to get urinary infections & prostate infections. Get him to your vet ASAP. Make sure you take a urine sample with you if possible. It has to be as fresh as possible & in a container that has been washed very well & rinsed with very hot water to make sure the sample isn’t contaminated. Think about how painful it is for people when they get a urinary infection, he’s feeling just as bad but dogs often don’t show their pain. Hope he feels better.
