I heard mixed reviews of VPI when I was checking into insurance last year and so went with Pets Best and have been happy with them so far. The biggest complaint I heard about VPI was that the reimbursement amount was usually about 40 – 50% of the actual bill and that it took quite some time to get the check. But I also think they’re one of the least expensive options, so this may be a case of getting what you pay for. If you never use the insurance, it would be better/cheaper to go with VPI. Of course, now that I write that, if you never use it, you’re better off not having purchased it at all, yes? )

I decided to pay the extra ten bucks a month for the better coverage with Pets Best. Only time will tell if I made the right choice, but if something happens to my pup, I’m glad to know he’s covered. Good luck!

Most vets do take insurance and VIP is the best rated and used insurance company i have 2 insurance policies on my 2 dogs, i have 6 dogs but 2 have cronic problems, i recently added my 2 older cats to it too. I have had no problems and its come in so handy with the 2 older dogs…. they paid on time and never give me a hard time… its about 10$ for each animal a month. its defrayed a surgery for a luxating patella and i only paid 50$ for a surgery that was about 1,300$

BEFORE you buy, call around to vets you would take a kitty to. Ask them if they TAKE this insurance. If so, what are the prices? meaning, you may pay $20 a month for the insurance, and still have to pay for the vet visit to the office and only part of shots.

By the way, peta (yes, that peta) has a snip van and immunization van in many areas. Call them or go to their website. They offer very VERY low cost shots, neutering and spaying.

Ask your vets what insurance they do take, if any.
