i am guessing that for one whole year of food, vet, medication, grooming, toys, would probably equal to $2000 dollars a year.
Lhasa Apsos live for about 14-15 years right so multiply the price of one year by 15 or 14 and that is the rough estimate of the total cost for as long as the dog lives.

(not including any emergencies *hit by a car, poisoned etc*
References :
I have had my dog for the past 4 years and would be happy to share the cost incurred thus far;

Food - 1 bag monthly @ 45.00 = 540.00
Treats - 3 bags monthly @ 10.00 = 300.00
Bedding - 1 bed every 6 months @ 50.00 = 100.00
Blankets - 1 per month @ 10.00 = 100.00
Shampoo - 6 bottles a year @ 10.00 = 60.00
Brushes - 2 per year @ 15.00 = 30.00
Clipper set - 1 really good one @ 160.00 = 160.00
Nail clipper - 1 really good one @ 45.00 = 45.00
Toys - too many per year = approx 200.00
Bowls - 2 per year @ 30.00 = 60.00
Food mat - 4 per year @ 12.00 = 50.00
Shots - per year shots alone = 250.00
Vet checkup - 2 per year @ 200.00 = 400.00
Emergency - bound to happen 1 per year = 600.00
Medications - bound to need them 1 per year = 100.00
Vitamins - 1 bottle per month @ 20.00 = 200.00
Crate - 1 really good one @ 250.00 = 250.00
Collar - 2 per year @ 20.00 = 40.00
Leash - 2 per year @ 20.00 = 40.00
Various clothing items = 100.00
First aid kit for dog - 2 per year @ 50.00 = 100.00
Pet insurance - monthly @ 30.00 = 350.00
Wee wee pads - 1 box monthly @ 25.00 = 300.00
Various Cleaners - 2 bottles monthly @ 15.00 = 360.00
Pooper scooper - 1 per year @ 30.00 = 30.00
Grass treatment for pee burn - 1 monthly = 350.00
Dentist - every 6 months @ 145.00 = 290.00
Anything else I forgot @ 200.00 per year = 200.00

Total yearly amount = $5,965.00

After 14 years = $83,510.00

And thats a low ball figure I gave you. Keep in mind these things listed are all necessary to keep you pet healthy and happy. Even in the event you can look at my list and say "Oh, my dog won't need that", believe me when I tell you, something else will happen and cause you to spend on something else.

Please consider all these things when deciding to get your pet. If you cannot afford to part with this money on a yearly basis, then please reconsider. For your sanity, your dogs well being, and the health of all involved (including your bank account)

Good luck to you in whatever decision you choose!
References :
A well-cared for dog can cost easily $1,000 a year just to maintain, let alone if a catostrophic event occurs, which can cost hundreds to thousands more. A $300 purebred Lhasa Apso is not a well-bred Lhasa Apso, so be prepared for allergy problems, other genetic issue may come up.

A 8lb bag of food may last a toy dog a month, a good quality food cost about $15. 15 x 12 = $180
Treats, biscuts, vitamens, etc. I spend a lot on, but a conservative numer is $10 a month, 10 x 12 = $120
Heartguard, yearly $35
Frontline , yearly about $150
A Lhasa Apso will need groomed about every 2 months, cost conservatively $45 in my area. 45 x 12 = $540
The first year, you will need to visit the vet for shots 3 times. Conservative vet visit with vaccination in my area, $40 40 x 3 = $120
Thereafter at least a visit and vaccination once a year, but you should plan on at least one or two visit due to incidents and illness, just in case.
Toys, bones and rawhides, easily in the past year I've spent hundreds of dollars on, but you have a little dog there, so I'll say conservatively $50. Though he'd be very deprived indeed on such a budget.
Also with a toy breed, the urge to dress it will be irristable. clothes are $10-$30 a garmet in my area.
Leash, collar, brush, nail clippers, crate, and etc. A VERY conservative budget of $50.
Obedience training, $100 a course. At least one course. Very important.

So far we have the extremely tight budget set at : $1,345 the first year, Not including clothes. And great goodness, I've spent some much more than that!
References :
If you get a puppy, it will be pretty expensive. My puppy is 7 months old, I got him when he was around 3 months. I have probably spent close to $1000 dollars on just vet bills(shots. nueter, and emergency care), food, toys, and other supplies. Have to buy heartworm proventative which is usually about $50+ a year, and flea meds, which cost me about 60 dollars for 6 months for advantix. You also have to consider money for emergencies that could happen. Even with the best care, some things out of your control can happen. One instance, my pomeranian pup was playing with my aunts bichon frise. My aunts dog always rubs his neck on other dogs, people and things like that. Well the "s" hook that connects the rabbies tag to the collar went through his eye lid. $200 emergency vet bill right there. Although that thing probably never happens, other things are possible. Dog are very very expensive.

You can adopt an older dog from a shelter for very little, and they are already spayed/nuetered and have all their shots. So the cost will be much less.
References :
It all depends on the size of the dog. Larger dogs are going to eat a lot so the food costs a lot of money. It all depends on size, how active it is , breed, etc. If you get a long haired dog then you'll need to take it to a groomer or groom it yourself.
References :
I just paid $270 for annual vet check and advantage( heartworm and flea) Food, I pay about $40 a month. Then you need bowls, collars, leashes, toys, treats and any other unexpected vet bills, as well as spay or neuter $250.
$10670 plus the stuff I didn't put values in for. After that calculate all the things a puppy destroys, eats and pees on.
Good Luck
