Ottawa humane society

Puppies (under 6 months) $330.00
Dogs: $275.00
Small Breed Dogs (under 15kg) $330.00
CATS ADOPTION FEE
Kittens (under 6 months) $205.00
Cats $150.00

For cats and dogs: these costs include a health check, initial deworming and vaccination, and permanent microchip identification. Most cats and dogs adopted from the OHS have already been sterilized. However, the occasional animal is not suitable for the surgery prior to adoption. Therefore, it will be the responsibility of the new owner to have the animal sterilized within six months of the adoption, by a veterinarian of the adopter’s choice. When the sterilization is complete, the refund voucher (found on the adoption contract) and proof of sterilization can be brought to the OHS for an $80 refund. The adoption fee also includes six weeks of pet insurance coverage. All dogs are temperament assessed prior to being placed for adoption.

Add: mine seems to be the most expensive. However i do give them credit..they helped to move a puppmill out of town and now the local pet stores only sell cats and dogs from the humane society.

    hahaha where do you live!?!?!

I live in cali and the shelters don’t have any of that.
    they have squat.
all they do is get a dog put it in the kennel feed and water, clean and wash and waits till someone adopts.
thats why i try to rescue as many as i can from the shelter and place them in good homes.
I wish it was like that at are shelters.
I wouldn’t want a dog to spend one day in the shelter here.
they also put to sleep temperamental dogs that cant be adopted.
i stopped that and now they call me to rehabilitate the temperamental dogs…….all dogs need a chance.
a little working with and there as good as new!

ADD: Oh! and it is 30$ to adopt a dog 50$ to adopt a puppy and cats and kittens are 40$.

This is the copy-paste version from our county’s humane society.

    Adoption Cost
The Cost to adopt a kitten is $63.00 Tax Included
The Cost to adopt a dog is $98.00 Tax Included
Included in this price is: Rabies, Distemper, Kennel Cough Vaccines.
The animal will be spayed or neutered. Will be de-wormed and been treated with flea & tick treatment.

We also live in a small town, probably why the prices are a lot different than those I’ve seen around.

    Dogs-$65.00
Includes all of the things you have listed, plus your first exam at a vet (one from a list of vets they recommend) is free, license with the county, a leash, collar, next two months dosages of Frontline, and small bag of dog food (I believe the food we got with Balto was Iams, blech. But he ate it as we transitioned him to a different food).

Puppies, I unfortunately don’t know the exact price. I believe it is $150 though, and includes the above as well.

WOW! That’s a lot for an adoption, but it’s worth it in the medical bills! I adopted my 8 month-old shih tzu in March, and paid $50 for her. It covered DHHP, wormer x1, and I got a $30 certificate towards her spaying. I find it odd that the dogs aren’t spayed/neutered prior to adoption, but our shelter isn’t funded very well. I’ve probably spent $500 or better on her vet care alone since then… but of course there’s no promises with shelter puppies (or any puppy for that matter!).

I adopted Casey from the Humane Society and I paid $70. She was spayed, shots, rabies vax, heartworm tested, microchipped, groomed, flea treated, wormed, and evaluated to be cat tolerant. I had "the works" done to a dog I rescued and paid $230 for everything. Casey was a bargain.

Your shelter sounds perfect! When I adopted Holly about 6 years ago, I paid $90. This covered her, and they reimbursed me for her spay.

Of course, this shelters is far from the best. They gave her to me extremely young, and she had no shots. Beyond that, we travelled over an hour to this shelter, and got there five minutes after "adoption time". They almost wouldn’t let us even see her!

I’ve adopted dogs from 2 different shelters, Animals in Distress and Manchester Dogs Home.

    Manchester Dogs Home (High-kill shelter):
Adult pedigrees/full breeds is £75 to adopt.
Adult Mixed breeds/Border Collies/Jack Russells are £50 to adopt.

I think puppies are £90 to adopt.

When I adopted Chester, a 3 year old male Border Collie for £50, in the package I got:
    Free vet check,
Free full course of vaccinations for Chester,
    Free worming for Chester,
    Free flea preventative,
6 weeks free insurance for Chester,
    Free Microchip for Chester,
Free bag of Iams kibble (ew),
And a free collar, leash, ID Tag & Microchip Tag.

When my sister adopted Jonny, a 4 month old GSD x Beagle for £100 from Animals in Distress (No-kill shelter) she got:
    A free blanket,
Free collar, leash & Id Tag,
    Free bag of kibble,
    Free Microchip,
    Free vet check,
    Free neuter.

BUT, when my sister took Jonny to the vets for his vaccinations, they hadn’t actually microchipped him! Liars.

When my sister went back a year later, Jonnys brother was still there from a year ago, so she adopted him for £70. With Max she got:
    Free neuter,
Free collar, leash & ID Tag,
    Free bag of food.

When I adopted Kia, a 4 month old APBT from Animals in Distress for £110 I got:
    Free spay,
    Free vet check,
Free collar, leash & ID Tag.

    And that’s it.
Not great shelters really….But at least they’re saving animals lives.

I have three surrounding shelters, each are about 10 minutes away in all directions.

Boone County: Dogs: $85, Cats: $50, Snakes: $70
    Spay/Neuter
    Basic Care
    Grooming
    Chip

Grant County (VERY bad shelter): Dogs: $50 , Cats: $35, Snakes: N/A
    Basic Care
    Grooming
    Spay/Neuter

Kenton County: Dogs: $100, Cats: $75, Snakes: $50
    Basic Care
    Grooming
    Behavior Tests
    Spay/Neuter
    Chip

Our shelters don’t charge for vaccinations because in our surrounding counties, the vaccinations are paid for by the state, so there is no reason to tack the extra money on. Most things that deal with vet visits are paid for by the state, save for heartworm treatments. Vet check up is free when you visit the shelters chosen vet.

All animals are the same price regardless of age at every shelter. If the dog isn’t spayed or neutered (most puppies aren’t), they require it to be done within 30 days of purchase or they take the dog back. They give you a voucher for it, but its not a lot of money.
