Automatic Pet Feeders Can Stop Pet Obesity

Pet Obesity is a growing concern according to a report which ranks the healthiest U.S. cities for cats and dogs based on 30 criteria, including weight, preventative care, air quality and pet-friendly legislation. As in humans, pet obesity is dangerous and unhealthy. It can lead to liver disease, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, joint, and even back problems. People who love their pets dearly don’t realize that they could be actually slowly killing their pets by overfeeding them.

The biggest contributor to pet obesity is overeating. Most pets will eat whatever is put before them because it is their natural instinct. For example, dogs are natural scavengers that think every meal could be their last so they eat whenever food is offered to them. Many times dogs will eat even if they are not hungry because of this natural instinct. That is why it is important to feed your animals perfectly portioned meals which many automatic pet feeders can do for your animals.

Many pet owners will turn to more expensive options like special foods or even pills. The two biggest things that someone can do for their pet is get an automatic pet feeder so they can eat perfectly portioned timed meals, and also make their animal gets plenty of exercise. Those two things will help reduce weight for a pet, and they are less expensive than other alternatives.

Pet feeders generally range from $39.99 to $125.99 depending on the kind of feeder you need for your pets. There are feeders for cats and small dogs and also feeders for larger dogs. The important thing to look for with an automatic pet feeder is whether or not it has an electronic timer that will automatically provide food to your animals at a specified time each day. The goal is that no matter how busy your schedule is, your cat or dog will eat at the same time every single day. Some automatic pet feeders will provide 5 meals, others provide 6, and others provide up to 8 meals. With an 8 meal automatic pet feeder you can choose to feed your animals twice daily over a four day span for instance. Each time the food is released it will only release the exact amount each time.

Pet feeders provide multiple benefits including helping to combat pet obesity, giving pet owners a peace of mind that their pet is being fed at the right time even if they are running late, and they also are excellent for use while owners are away for a few days on vacation. It is highly recommended and encouraged that while pet owners are away that they still plan for someone to visit their animals while they are gone to check up on them and make sure everything is going well.

Pet obesity could end up killing your pets, so it is extremely important that you take action, and an automatic pet feeder allows you to take that action without breaking the bank.

In Canada is there a good Pet Insurance plan for rabbits?

I have a Jersey Wooly and would like to get him insured, but I’m having trouble finding anyone in Canada! Also, if anyone could recommend a good vet in Calgary that would be awesome!

From my experience, Most pet insurance is not worth it.
And you are better off to self-insure.

Take what you would expect to pay in insurrance, and put it into a savings account. For Example: take $50/month and put into a savings account for pet care. I think you will see that it grows much faster than how much it cost for rabbit care.

When it gets funded where you feel comfortable, that it will handle any illness (say in 2 years you have $1200 for worst case) Then stop paying in, or reduce to just cover the wellness visits, and if you need it the money is there for the rabbit.
I have heard many horror stories about paying thousands of dollars to pet insurance over several years, just to file a claim, and have them pay only 25% or less of the vet bill.

Why It Is Wise To Consider Pet Insurance

No one has to tell you how important it is to have health insurance for you and your family. It is said that many families are one serious medical issue away from financial disaster. With the costs of doctors, hospitals, lab tests and medications, the fees can easily bankrupt a family.

The same principle applies to your pet. When you have a pet it becomes a full fledged member of the family. Your pet is with you during good times and bad times, often knowing instinctively when you are upset and trying in its own way to comfort you. They offer us protection from harm and listen to us with understanding compassion in their eyes. When the rest of the world seems to let you down, your pet is always there and it doesn’t care if you don’t look your best or are having a bad hair day. It accepts you with unconditional love and can make your troubles seem not as bad as they would were your pet not around to comfort you.

For this reason, many people wisely buy health insurance for their pet. They do this because medical care for animals can be just as expensive for pets and sometimes even more so. Yearly vaccinations and physicals can cost hundreds of dollars and if your pet becomes ill and needs to be hospitalized the fees can skyrocket into the thousands. This may seem like a small price to pay to keep your pet alive and healthy but if those funds are not available it can be heartbreaking to consider the alternatives.

What’s important to remember is that when you obtain healthcare for your pets, you have to read over the policy as carefully as when you read over your own. You may be required to pay the doctor upfront for the care and then get reimbursed by the insurance company. There may be deductibles to pay and some things may not be covered such as lab tests or may require additional documentation in order to be reimbursed.

Medications may or may not be covered and certain procedures may have different coverage allowances. There may also be age factors involved. Some insurance carriers will only extend coverage to animals of a certain age, making the older ones ineligible so it’s important to get the coverage when your pet is young.

Pay attention to the different plans that insurance company is offering. Initially it may seem like the cheapest plan may be the most cost effective but if your pet becomes seriously ill it could end up costing you more in medical fees than the premiums for the more costly plans would. Your pet is probably the best friend you will ever have, so make sure that its medical insurance is the best that you can provide for it.

Pet Insurance – a Financial Safety Net for Animal Owners

Pet insurance is something that every pet owner must consider. Veterinarian visits cost as much as physician’s visits today!

Insurance for pets works in many of the same ways that human insurance works. There are many things to consider, such as monthly or weekly payments, co-payments, and deductibles. Each plan will have a set structure of what procedures and office visits will be covered. Most types of insurance offer prescription drug coverage. There are now many insurance companies available that provide these types of services.

Why You Need to Get Pet Insurance

You may be thinking that with today’s tough times, getting pet insurance is not on top of your To Do list. But you really should consider this. After all, your pets are getting old too, making them susceptible to age-related illnesses and diseases. And of course, what if your beloved pet figures in an accident? Do you have any idea how much pet care costs these days?!?

The key to make pet insurance work for you is to get it early; i.e., the minute you get your pet. This is especially the case if you got your pet in its ‘youth’. This way, you can really take advantage of the cost benefits as you take care of your animal friend through the years.

Don’t worry if you have an exotic pet. Although most pet insurance covers only the ‘basic breeds’, there are many providers out there now today that cater to the more unusual breeds. All you have to do is look for them.

Regardless of the type of pet you have, you need to do your homework when selecting the right animal insurance provider. This ensures that you will have a problem-free experience when trying to make claims.

To guide you, here’s a list of potential questions you can ask the animal insurance provider.

- What are the different Pet Plans available?
- Given the current age of your pet, which plan do they recommend and why?
- Are claim payments based on the bill of a veterinarian or the provider’s benefit list?
- Are the dental needs of your pet covered?
- When you file a claim, will they increase the premium afterwards?
- As your pet gets older, will you need to pay higher premiums?
- How are pet insurance claims handled exactly?
- What is the exact coverage of the pet insurance they’re offering?
- What are the LIMITS of the pet insurance they’re offering?

If you love your pet, ensuring that you can properly care for him is a must. And having pet insurance not only ensures you can provide the best care but it’s a financial safety net for you too should you find yourself needing to spend a big sum of money for your beloved pet’s care.

Does anyone have Pet Plan or Pet First pet insurance?

I’m considering those two, based on info I have. Pets Best sounds good, but it’s not available in my state. There are pluses and minuses to all of them. Does anyone have any bad experience with a particular one? My dog is 7 and healthy, but I don’t want to take chances.

Whichever one is going to cover more for the money is what I’d go with. I personally do not have any kind of insurance on my dogs but I have a very reasonable vet and extremely healthy (knock on wood) dogs. Research and ask a lot of questions about each plan to determine what they each cover for what they charge and ask your vet approximately how much it would cost to cover certain things you are concerned about-it may not be economically sound to get the insurance but better yet to stick a certain amount aside from each check to help cover costs for things that may or may not come up concerning the health of your dog.

What To Do In Case You Loose Your Pet

According to the most recent Synovate pet survey (Sept. 2005), conducted in nine markets across the globe, the UK and the US were shown to be the two absolute leaders in pet ownership. But the world-wide annual statistics on missing pets are shocking. Over 10 million pets go missing every year and millions never make it back home. This short rescue guide was compiled in order to minimize the chances of you ever having to file a missing pet report and to provide to all US pet-lovers a comprehensive list of the things one should know and do before and after his/her independent companion decides to migrate and explore the unknown. Just read carefully the tips that follow keeping in mind that you should not get discouraged or panic if your pet disappears. By following our advice and keeping yourself organized and prepared at all times, the chances are that you will be reunited with your lost friend again soon.

Plan ahead: Create an emergency action list and keep it handy in house or car. Check frequently your pet’s neck to ensure that the collar is in place and that its rabies tag and pet license tag are there; apart from pet’s ID your current phone number should appear. If your pet carries a microchip or a tattoo have that number with you all the time (in your wallet). Make sure you have recent reliable photos of your pet. Create a pet file on your PC with pet web directories and have all the local pet authorities’ telephone numbers also in print. Keep an updated map of your area with your emergency pet kit. Frequently check your locks, doors, windows and fence for possible escape passages. Do not trust strangers and never leave your pet unattended outside stores or inside vehicles. Register your pet to the available services of your area; you will save precious time if your pet becomes lost.

Your pet is missing: Check everywhere you can and do it quickly! Ask friends, neighbors and local pet authorities to assist you in your search. Create and distribute flyers including your pet’s pictures and your phone number and never state the exact amount if you decide to offer a reward or your real name and house address. Scan your neighborhood and give a copy of the missing pet’s flyer to everyone you meet, asking them to call you in case they see or hear anything. Have a real live person or if that is impossible a telephone recording machine answering the phone. Check all the clinics of your area frequently and visit the local shelters in person everyday. Befriend the employees and request their assistance. Inform the local veterinarian offices and the police. Provide all the details they need, but leave a few of your pet’s characteristics out. These will later help you identify whether the person claiming to have found your pet has actually your companion in his/her possession. Never visit by yourself someone that called and reported to have your pet. Take a friend with you or arrange to meet in a public place or the police department. Contact the local media and create a publicity fuss. Publicize your pet’s disappearance via the internet and local newspapers. Check the ‘found pet’ section of your local newspapers daily. Most importantly, do not give up hope. Keep looking and good luck!

Your pet is back: Once reunited with your pet, of extreme importance is for you to discover what circumstances allowed it to escape and perform any necessary changes to prevent a similar incident from happening again. Do not forget to call your neighbors, friends, local veterinarian clinics and shelters, to inform them that your pet is back. Of course, always remember to keep a collar and a current identification tag on your pet at all times, even when they are in your house. Your pet’s ID is actually its ticket home.
